Chapter 17
Paris has reached a breaking point. On the plus side he is now convinced Sera is innocent--unfortunately she just got arrested and some unsettling secrets from his past reappear.
Paris Is Unreliable
I am not a fan of doing unreliable narrators anymore. I intentionally made Paris unreliable in the novella (In that story his is VERY subjective). I didn't go that route with this. In this story Paris is unknowingly unreliable because of his past. Which a few of you caught on to. This is from an earlier chapter :
Sera and I are both orphans thanks to a rather unspeakable and mostly forgotten tragedy. I have no memories of our home but after the tragedy we surviving children were resettled in the rural plains of Upstate New York.
This reveal was inspired by this wacky thing that sometimes happens in some thriller's where a bomb (unrelated to the current mystery) is dropped on the character and gives them reason for self-reflection. I knew this was going to be revealed but I didn't know how or when in the story.
