Darker and Edgier
So I realized when I talked about N:AF (Yes, we are on that again) I used the words Darkier and Edgier. . . and I'll admit compared to Lux, N:AF looks like the Care Bear movie.
I did realize early on that parts of this story may come off as dark and straight up misogynistic. . .but I promise there is a method to my madness.
Okay, guys let's slowly crawl out of the dark tunnel. . .

DeleteI’d think the story would have been interesting from Isobel's POV. We could have seen her trying to unravel her own mystery and then get pulled into another.

ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if the song is on something, the story almost took place in Riverside but it wasn't far enough away from Brooklyn.

Good question. In the (dense) first chapter Paris mentions that
DeleteThere was always something small but significant that made humans another species from us entirely. Many Demons confessed the love and company of human women was tolerable but severely lacking any real connection.
They said loving a human woman was like a human loving a dog. How could it love you when it knew and understood so little about what it meant to be you ? Or a goldfish who was so insignificant in the scheme of things, but was too stupid to realize it.
So, no they are not hetro-virgins. They do (have) slept with humans but it's not the same for them.
Admittedly Ashe being gay was supposed to be a twist, considering he insulted the Angels by calling them Sapphist when he was the one who was gay.
Seraphina just happens to have a crush on another Angel as part of her story.
So I can see how this may have seemed that way.
In my mind maybe a handful of them are openly homosexual but only because now it's more widely accepted.
Paris is straight though (If that helps eric)

ReplyDeleteAlmost forgot about all the whodunit in JNRR until i saw the other comments ! I think that story had a lot of tension because we knew that we already knew the characters
Most days I enjoyed the fun I had with JNRR, then there are days when I wonder if I went a bit to far. Mostly I like it. We'll have to get to the T-DOLL of that

I get the sense that within the story, the LA symbol is used a lot so maybe he bought a new one or had a knock off made.
DeleteThis isn't mentioned so I'll say it here. They have lost a lot of Demons over the past few hundred years and when they die/get banished/leave they don't take their collar pins with them, so he just took one from the pile.
DeleteIt seems odd Seraphina would want to be a demon. I mean it’s more than just gender and getting to do things. There seems to be a whole histroy and culture behind being a demon she just wants to appropriate.

I know this isn't what you are talking about, but your comment made me think about how Lile has kind of "unromanticized" our ideas about Angels and (to a lesser extent) Demons. I mean they are flawed, confused and just like us. THey aren't beautiful and effervescent and her for humans, they are in fact hiding from us.
