When I wrote the novella this story was inspired by I knew I was going to end it with a ten year time jump (a la Nightfall Academy) and I wrote Seraphina as a Domme as a tongue and cheek joke, because when I started Bellum and thought about Paris/Seraphina I knew Paris sort of fetishzed Sera being tall, strong and domineering. This sort of role reversal/power imbalance aspect of their relationship was always subtext. Sera takes charge of the personal and business relationship in Bellum. Some of you in the comments may have caught on to their less than vanilla taste....

in New Aeterna-verse this subtext became text because Paris and Sera have built a relationship and discovered what roles they want to take in their relationship...but their kink life is not the healthiest way because of all the...you know...trauma. It's sprinkled in the serial but the big sections are this one

It was an accident", She tilts her angular chin and long neck up, blowing smoke into the broken ceiling fan, “Paris Lucien Prince is the king of one of the most watched, influential, feared and revered island principalities in the world. Maybe he’s more of an influential diplomat than a king . . . but he holds so much power. It is just starting to be too much. So when he is . . . home . . . he likes to give it all up... the power. He said it was relaxing. I mean it should be perfect, the man who wants no power and a woman who wants it all.”
“You . . . Dominate him?”
“It's not the real me"
"Sera, what the hell?”
"I. ... I don’t know . . . He was getting away with so much I guess he wanted to be---"
"Punished ?"
She closed her eyes, I could hear her slowly inhaling, drawing in a deeper and deeper breaths. She opened her sapphire blue eyes then parted her lips and let out a small breath, no smoke.
"Then . . . ", she started taking another hit.
She tensed her high cut hollows of her cheeks. Her features were so strong and maybe a bit to masculine without all that crap on her face. .
"Then what?” I asked.
"Then he'd have a meeting or make coffee or something and we'd pretend like he wasn't medicating with sex, he had such a hard time coming I don't even know what the point was ? I think he just wanted to be humiliated, you know? Feel punished for all the shitty things he's doing. And you know what? I didn't care that he couldn't concentrate enough to touch me.
Guys, I totally forgot about this whole scene until I started looking for examples of subtext.

“Of course I do.”, A man’s voice says It could be her husband but I had no idea what he sounded like.
She suggestively slides the key around her neck and into her mouth,”Have you been good while I’ve been away?”
“Sera, I--.”
“Tell me how much you miss me.” She says with very little emotion.
No one ever asked why she had that key. There are a ton more examples but I can't remember them. I could blather on and on about how it might be problematic that to write a "strong" "female" character I had to make give a male character submissive subtext but I just...to much discourse.
What I've Learned
So...the pandemic made researching professional Dommes and sex clubs difficult. I ended up skimming Reddit threads and kink blogs from the early 2010's.
Paris and Sera really have something more akin to a FLIR or a female led relationship that's centered in female domination. It staunchly based on the idea of flipping gender roles and making the female spouse the center of the relationship.
I learned about this concept years ago when I was Googling how to write a strong female character...I guess it stuck in my head.

Supporters of these relationships are fanatically heternormative. Despite having the same tenants of BDSM/Femdom (except without the kink part) FLR supporters often kink-shame and "other" the BDSM community.
