Serial Race
So, in my last post I blogged about how I wanted to get my Goodwill draft closer to the 27K that my NAIII draft has . . . well... now Goodwill is at 30K and I realized the bulk of the story wasn't where I thought it would be, so these first few chapters are going to be broken up oddly. Also at first my "sequel" to Goodwill (Codename Redbooth) felt like a fun side project but now it feels...essential to Tomas and Sofia's story..

The Goodwill of Sofia Madigan
This chapter opened up just a few weeks after S&A. I don't know if I've ever blogged about this in detail, but the prologue of Goodwill was originally going to be a Part II of Vegas!. There was going to be a fire drill and different characters would be trapped together. It would have involved like Sofia and Elijah going down the stairs while Sera helped Tomas down the stairs in his wheelchair. It was my way of separating the characters and getting Fierro ad Sofia in the same scene,
But I felt like something was happening in this scene. There was all this tension between them and this thing hanging in the air and it hit me that this was the mood and vision I'd had for Angel : Black, White and Gray (wow, what a bad title). It didn't feel like a fun parody, it felt like I was doing a Sofia/Tomas story again after I'd pretty much thought I've NEVER be able to do one again.
Chapter 1 Recap
Tomas and Sofia have had a rough few months. There have been ups; like Sofia getting a new job and downs like Tomas' mother overdosing. When they are disqualified for receiving housing benefits they are kicked out of their apartment and scramble to find a new place to live. Soon after, Tomas is diagnosed with a crippling fibromyalgia leaving him dependent on a wheelchair. They rally though, and have been staying with Eric and Maddie. Things are looking up until CPS is called.
