Location Location Location
I've always been a bit obsessed with the idea that Manhattan is an island. I mean it's like a floating city that is only connected to the continental US via bridges. It's not in the middle of the ocean like Hawaii or far away like Alaska. It's just interesting and Helios clearly shares my vision. But here are some things to consider/Author Did Not Do Research
The Angels and Demons don't live on the island of Manhattan
The Angels live in Brooklyn which is only connected to the Island of Manhattan via the Brooklyn Bridge. Riverdale where The Demons live id in the Bronx. which is connected to Manhattan The Bronx is connected via the Broadway Bridge. Just some geography pointers. The groups are on two different sides of New York-metro.
Recap
Helios' plan to take over Manhattan is finally revealed and he is working with Isaiah, who wants revenge on Paris. With the help of Baby Tessa's stem cell's Helios is ready to create his army . . . but at what cost ?
Also this section from Bellum I is going to come back. This is an exchange between Helios and Paris
and this after Sera almost drowns Paris.“Well. . . even if she is a whore’s daughter. Probably why she is senselessly frigid. Interesting childhood that one--”I had choked on the tiny sip of wine I’d tasted at his comment.“You know --er--knew her from back . . . home”, I feign disinterest.
“Infamous that one. Her father died in the war back home. Days later a set of Demons soldiers overtook her village and she and her mother became slaves in their own house. Seraphina couldn’t stand how the Demons treated them . . .one day and rumors abound why…. Seraphina killed the Demon
“Why ?”, I ask, “Why did you try to kill me ?”
She lifts her neck higher and I grasp it tighter, letting my anger over that day take over. The anger of seeing Isobel cry.
“Because of my mother”, she breathes.
“I didn’t know your mother.”
“I know.”
“Do we have some sort of history ?”
“No”
Meanwhile in The Angel & Demon storyline . . .
While escaping The Tempest- a monstrous elemental creature-- the The Angel and Demon discover the creatures weakness. They have a plan to destroy it before it can destroy the Demon's home, the Citadel.

So funny, I always keep the playlist window open and it always goes back up to Bang Bang and it’s always such a shock coming out of this sadder chapters….that said all I can think about is Helios’ party when I hear that song.

This chapter felt short, but wow so much happened!!!! I’m sad to see the Angel and Demon story go (maybe ? is that the end for them ?) but that ending was brutal.

DeleteSo playing devils advocate here (see what I did there) maybe the Angels and Demons shouldn’t miscegenate...I mean there has to be a reason they can’t produce offspring together. They are basically different species.

DeleteWait, WHAT IS HAPPENING ? First the angel and demon story gets a super depressing ending but then we find out the “parents” knew about Paris and Sera ??!! Was this planned from the very beginning ? Like part 1 beginning ?

“The fine wine, the pleasant conversations, you are certainly hospitable today, Hmujeu.”
“Do I have reason not to be Anne ?”
The Angel Mother lowers her eyes and smiles politely.
“Well, I did just brutally punish one of your precious Demon Boys.”
“Dare I say you’ve sent a chill through the rest, Anne.”
She sets her wine down and regards the Demon before her.
“You should have let Seraphina hang herself, Hmujeu. Why on this Earth did you save her ? It would have solved our little problem."
“I think it not a problem.”, The Demon Father decided.
“I do. I hope I am wrong.” The Angel Mother said dismissively, "It would be dangerous to our way of life."
“I thought”, The Demon Father remembered her words, “Angels had good sense about these things.”
“We do. No good can come of this. You must know this.”
“Destiny and Fate are against us, Anne. You said it yourself; The Prince and Seraphina are destined for one another.
“This will never be.” The Angel Mother stood deciding she had overstayed her welcome.
“Why so confident ?”
“I know one day Seraphina will see it too . . . and she will do anything to stop it.”
Anne's picsipiration was Jillian Michaels, Hmjeu didn't have one because he wasn't supposed to be mentioned again but I'd like Ian McKellen
Honestly, I think it’s great this story is about NYC but not Manhattan. Manhattan is such an easy place to set a story. I could totally see the demons living in Greenwich Village,

DeleteSo sidenote: If this were ever a movie I want there to be a moment in the trailer where some NY douchebag on the street tells Paris to go to hell and he smiles at the camera before it cuts to the title of the movie.

DeleteIt’s interesting, in literature it seems to be all about the love you are destined for (Twilight, etc.), but in movies its typically the love you choose. In this case I felt more chemistry between Sera and Paris. It seemed like he and Isobel were just playing house.

ReplyDeleteI kind of disagree with Sera here, Paris didn’t know he was defying destiny so it’s not fair for her to say he intentionally “chose” to spit in the face of destiny.
I see this as a version of the saying "If you love them let them go, if it were meant to be they will find a way back to you". She's saying he made his own choice when he wasn't supposed to be able to, if She (Sera) and Paris were really meant to be he wouldn't have been able to fall for Isobel.

ReplyDeleteAs much as I want Peraphina together I would also really like to see how Helios’ New World Order is going to work out. I kind of feel like he’d start World War III or something because I’m sure if other countries saw the shit he was doing they’d form some kind of Axis Power Pat Deux to defeat him.
