So this is one of those little tropes that I did somewhat intentionally invoke twice in chapter 9 because July mentioned 9 crimes (hm 9 and 9) I thought I'd mention it. It's here :
“she keeps us locked in that house for months and you barley notice yet now you seem concerned.”“. . . She has taken over your house, your work, your life and now your garden. What right does she have ? She has turned a place of sanctuary into a prison”
Clara explains to Mr. Fierro why he is suddenly upset and then it happens again because a lot of commenter ask why he does keep a gardens
"Why flowers, why rose gardens? I thought it was because they were beautiful.”
“These flowers these wild beautiful things, you like to tame them. The garden grows and dies at your command. It’s not about beauty it’s about controlling nature. . .like you couldn’t Lucie. Or your murder.”"
Maybe I mentioned this in another post but just in case.
Chapter 11
I'm really hitting a stride with these >3000 word chapter, I think it allots space for just enough information while still being suspenseful.
I know this chapter may have seemed chilling and like I mentioned in the comments I did not want to solely focus on the whole exorcism thing (oh, the unwanted controversy) but it was more about how much control Lucie was gaining.
Chapter 12
This chapter is more of a continuation of chapter 11 and there is a short Author's Note at the end.
Playlist
Today's playlist features one of my favorite songs from a previous work, A song from last chapter and a last minute song that I felt fit for some reason. I decided to personalize the playlist with a photo on my server.
+1+ - Winter Song - Sara Bareilles
+2+ - Room of Angles
+3+ - Why - Secondhand Serenade
CHAPTER 12

Another, excellent chapter. I like the shorter ones, one thing I noticed with UL was my chapters were always so long and so much happened.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I love the playlist, thanks for introducing me to Secondhand Serenade !
I think you could have gotten away with focusing a litle more on the process of the exorcism and what actually happened. If anything time has proven being a bit controversial always helps.
ReplyDeleteTBH, I'm surprised you took very little flak for mentioning religious stuff this
I had a sneaking suspicion Victor was going to make a re-appearence this whole time. So, was all that stuff about Joshua's list a red herring ?
ReplyDeleteSo, did you invoke those tropes not knowing they were tropes ? I was just wondering because as a sceenwriter I hate when I do that !
ReplyDeleteAwww,The photo doesn't come up in the playlist !! Or am I missing something ?
ReplyDeleteThese chapters are coming so fast,I love it. I would love having a new chapter to read everyday at lunch.
ReplyDeleteOnce again I am confused about the house. If Mr.Fierro's Aunt and Uncle were poor how does he have such a nice house. Also, did they ever find his body ?
ReplyDeleteOh, C'mon Mr.Fierro are you really going to kill Roger on Christmas ?
ReplyDeleteHmm . . . at first I did not like this sequel because I thought it was a lot of fodder and an attempt to please LL fans but, this chapter really brings it full circle because we never found out what happened to Victor and it makes sense he and Lucie had similar goals.
ReplyDeleteAre we supposed to notice 4 people go missing (Emile, Clara, Beck and Rev.Allen) and the only one anyone notices is Clara ?
ReplyDelete^^
ReplyDeleteI totally believe that because Clara is the richest out of them all.
I honestly can't figure out if Mr.Fierro is sweet and loving or obsessively delusional. He seems to make these little reference to having a happily ever after with someone . . . I'm just not sure if it's Lucie or Clara
ReplyDeleteI think a better tell that Joshua was Victor was to have him slip and call Fierro Addison or something.
ReplyDeleteI assume the tower of cards is a coping mechanism for Fierro coming to terms with the fact his house is ruined and so is his glass house, which probably means his flowers are dead.
ReplyDeleteAre we ever going to find what is in the grave ?! I want to know !
ReplyDeleteI am honestly surprised Emile did not make a run for it when Fierro left the house.
ReplyDeleteWhy would Victor choose a boy's body ? I mean yeah sure he could mold it into what ever form he wanted but, it gives him less power as well.
ReplyDeleteJudging by Victor's little speech, he hasn't always been in Josh's body. How long has he been Josh ?
ReplyDeleteI hope this doesn't mean she killed him.
I wonder why Clara called her grandfather Roger ? Does she not like him anymore.
ReplyDeleteI thought this chapter was a really good kind of big reveal. I wish I had more to comment on but, it was to short !
ReplyDeleteI can not believe Clara is about to get in a car, that'show Lucie got her last time.
ReplyDeleteSo, I'm being a little TLDR with LL right but,why did Lucie kill Clara to begin with ? I know it was because he thought Mr.Fierro liked her but, how did he ever see her ?
ReplyDeleteSo, the entire time Lucie was going away she was talking to Victor and scouting out a new body for him.

ReplyDelete@ Shawna - Thanks for introducing me to writing !
@ Erik - Well there was a point in S&A when I did.
@ July - yes and no. I just wanted to make it known that Joshua was a real person. The list wasn't a red herring what the list said was.
@ Nybarista -Yes, but I think tropes are better than cliches . . .right.
@ Rei - Oh,I had to take it off, it messed up the playlist.
@ Heidi - OMG met too *shawna*
@ Tabbi - Yes, they did find his body. I was always vaguley implying that the reason his Aunt and Uncle became so rich was with Lucie's help (ie insider trading)because she felt guilty about what she had done.
@ Hali - Well, it's still Christmas eve
@ Jade - Intersting you mention that
@ Rose87- Emile is from Vermont, Clara is from Rochester and Rev. ALlen is from Pennsylvania and only Mrs. Beck is from the area. There really is no overlap.
@ Sugarcookie - she is
@ Violeta - I feel the samway
@ Coraline - too obvious, a better tell was his speech pattern in this chapter
@ Ellen - points !, you got that the flowers were dead.
@ Quinnn - not telling
@ Hpgirl - When the house started shaking one of the first things Emile did was to find out where Joshua was. Emile understands that he was roped into this and wants to go and find him.
@ Ashlyn - There really isn't alot of choice and it does give him a chance to mold it into what he wants.
@ Lora - not very long (less than a day)
@ Harper - No, but for some reason her saying "my grandfather" just didn't seem right.
@ Wilson - I know, not the biggest 'reveal" but still a reveal
@ Marilyn - (:
@ Carleigh - It's mentioned in LL that at Victor's castle there is a Sanctuary that anyone can use for an unlimited time. In chapter 11 just under the picture of the petals it explains when he first say her.
@ Trina - Yes.
Can't wait to see what happens next
