No excuse
So, I've been away for a while. I'm working on a few projects not related to Cobalt.
Anywho I decided to make this post after coming back from taking my girls (mostly my niece)to see So You Think You Can Dance Live.
Chapter 6
Okay, this chapter gave me a hard time. I was afraid the part with Mr. Fierro talking to Reverend wouldn't work ,but it served two purposes
1. It explains why Addison never left his farm in the 1950s. His foster parents were strictly relighouse and self sufficent which is why he had to sneak out to the library. This is also why he is a bit of an introvert. It also semi-explain why he doesn't cook or do house work.
2. It also put the idea in Clara's head that people would not recognize her and have stopped looking.
Also it may become more evident in this chapter but Mr. FIerro could easily dominate (you know what I mean) Clara but from what we know of Lucie she took advantage of him. Even Clara sort of calls him out on it in chapter 11.
Yes, I'll admit to some unsavory subtext at the end of chapter 6, if it made you uncomfortable it's supposed to.
Once again this is another one of these chapters where Mr. Fierro and Clara's Mother's scene was written early on. In Chapter 5 when Mr. Fierro says
her disappearance was quoted as causing sympathy and heartache for her wealthy family and fiancee, among other things I would later find to be lies.
He is referring to The DeLune's being bankrupt , Mr. DeLune marrying his daughters off for money, making him wonder if Martin wants Clara back for the right reason.
Tropes
Someone at Cobalt e-mailed me this list and I love it but there are a few things I don't agree with
Genius Book Club
Tolstoy was the social equivalent of Harry Potter back in the day, it's not really appraised except by us simple people, which is why she is reading it.
Crowning Moments of Heartwarming Angels : Sofia looks in the mirror to see a man in love
I think I've gone on and on about how much I regret writing that, it was one of the reasons I did a sequel it was just so predictable and a little cheesy. YMMV, right. Did I use that right ?
Happily Married -- Subverted . . . with everyone . . . Lile has ever written about . . . to this point . . . hmm
Okay, so just looking at S&A the ending sort of gave the idea that Sofia and Tomas have the happiest ending they deserved.
I will discuss this more when I finish HOF *making Venn diagram* I'm calling it my Epic Romance Post and am writing it as we speak.
Speaking of which I'm trying to come up with a non-canon parody crossover. My therapist says I need more humor !
Playlist
Today's Playlist has in no particular order a I've used before, A song that was featured on SYTYCD (but I had it first), One song from a Shakespearean film and a song that has been covered more times than I thought.
+1+ - Against All Odds - The Postal Service*It's supposed to sound like that
+2+ - I've Been Loving You - Otis Redding
+3+ - A Time For Us - Nino Rota
+4+ - Sweet Escape - Paul Cardall
Chapter 7

Lucie is insane, did you have any inspiration for that ?
ReplyDeleteomg, hon you are never going to believe this but, I had against all odds in my playlist arsenal, I just haven't used it !
ReplyDeleteI feel like we both are going to give Mr. Cardall some business I've used like 4 of his compositions.
OMG, your daughters and neice are so lucky, they saw SYTYCD live ! Are the rooting for anybody ? I would love to hear your SYTYCD musings.
ReplyDeleteWill any other SYTYCD songs be making an appearance ?
^^
ReplyDeleteLol, maybe I need to watch this show.
The otis redding song seemed a little out of place at first glance but, it totally ups the horror level for some reason. I thought that was the best placed song in the whole thing.
Here is something I noticed about Mr. F. For me anyway, he is a jerk when it's his voice talking, like I really hate him but, when I see him through Clara's eyes I kind of like him better.
ReplyDeleteI'm having a midnight sun complex
*peeks our* Okay, so I had a hand in the trope list and I did the Happily Married subverted because for me it seemed like a bitter ending. Sofia will never travel the world, Tomas is disabled and will die soon.
ReplyDeleteI mean I thought it was a cute ending but, kind of bitter.
^^^
ReplyDeleteAlso, the "Man in love" line is not in the version posted online anymore. For some reason we all remember it anyway. Is it a little Narm-y for you, Lile ?
BTW, did anyone catch she just called us all simple in like the second paragraph ?
ReplyDeleteYou have Cardall's Embrace mixed in the playlist and I accidentally listened to it with part 3 but, it actually works really well with that part.
ReplyDeleteIf you need laughing therapy Lile, I hope some of the comments cheer you up and make you smile !
ReplyDeleteI think it's really terrible that this Mr. Addison Fierro character is supposed to be a Plain person yet, he is acting so indulgently. It seems a little out of character and almost, Did Not Do Research.
ReplyDeleteI mean, I don't know Joel's friend Mr. Vance is a Mennonite, is he offended ?
PS. I like the name Addison and so did the people on my mom forums, I may use it as a middle name. Won't that be fun ?
*hugs* & *kisses*
^
ReplyDeleteJSYK, tots not offended.
I've been through the Cobalt Sensitivity Seminar Series 2.0 nothing offends me anymore.
No, seriously
Mrs. Beck was murdered ?! Nooooo
ReplyDeleteSeriously my heart was racing through that entire section. Then my husband reminded me, since she was murdered she is probably on Litany Lane somewhere.
I think Mr.F is showing some remorse for what he is doing and that is good. I think there is something in the back of his head telling him it is wrong.
ReplyDeleteI love how Mr. Fierro smokes and drinks like Tomas in S&A but, on Mr. F it's more sophisticated and less dangerous/sexy.
ReplyDeleteI mean you'd think if you had a second chance at life you wouldn't smoke.
I agree, I think Mr. Fierro knows what he is doing is wrong and that is why he is rationilizing it out. Saying that Clara has nothing to live for.
ReplyDeleteI want to give the dissenting opinion, I think Mr. Fierro is acting recklessly and he doesn't care about right or wrong.
ReplyDeleteI think despite the rich, confident, sophisticated facade he is just a young insecure 25 year old man who doesn't know how to deal with his feelings.
I love when you write in 3rd person. The Mrs.Beck was written so perfectly from beginning to end. I love how she is just hanging out with friends and things just spiral out of control. Seriously after reading that I looked behind my back.
ReplyDeleteI realize sometimes there is larger meaning in some of the lines you write and I think in this chapter these were some :
ReplyDeleteI would give her life a new meaning
She was my means to an end.
or
The house is upsettingly quiet now.
I can't believe they went to a bar to talk about something like that. I feel like that is going to come back to haunt them.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I would love to see Mr.F like drink a slurpee or something else super un-douchey.
Was Lucie in Clara's body when Mrs. Beck was murdered ? Because Mrs. Beck never mentions seeing her face and if she wasn't in Clara's body how does Clara "see" the murder ?
ReplyDeleteThese chapters have been a lot of Mr.F, Clara/Lucie and just when I thought Mrs. Beck was going to spring forth as a new charcter she is killed.
ReplyDeleteI think I need more Emile . . . maybe even Josh but, definatley more Emile.
Even though it's cliched the whole no one ever saw Gail Beck thing made me kind of sad. What a horrible way to go, I hope someone gets revenge.
ReplyDeleteWow, did you really just throw some auto-erotic asphysixation in there ? I mean . . . that's kind of hot.
ReplyDelete^^
ReplyDeleteIt's kind of funny the only way Mr.Fierro can deala with a woman is to suffocate her and do something else.
I loved the Alice in Wonderland scene. It was a sweet interlude after all the heavy stuff before and after.
ReplyDeleteThis whole thing made me smile
ReplyDelete“Haven’t you ever read it ? you are like the white rabbit with your pocket watch and you always seem very late for things. Some say Carroll wrote part of it in the novel in his garden perhaps one like yours ?”
“Shall I paint my roses red? Would that please you?”
“What do you mean? Wouldn’t I be Alice?”
“Nonsense, Ms. DeLune. . . you are the queen of hearts.”
Was Mr.Fierro fashioned after the White Rabbit and Clara after Alice ?
I don't see why Lucie doesn't find someone else to haunt then it really can be the three of them without her having to constantly leave and comeback to Clara's body.

@ W. Casey - Lucie and Clara are very connected now.
@ Emile_lover - No, she was always going to die. other characters come in later

I'm starting to have mixed feelings about this chapter which gives me a lot of insight for future chapters.
