Nothing Rhymes with Seventy !

*Back from skiing !*

After deleting a few draft post I realized that this is post 70 ! This also means post 50 actually wasn't 50 (this one was ) but we'll let that pass.

Chapters 5&6

These chapters could have been merged but I wanted "the journey" to Bordeaux and Clara's death to stand on it's own.

The picture used for the pool in Chapter 6 is actually American. It's the Hearst Castle in California. Looks like a nice place to get married, Shawna *wink wink nudge nudge*. The Bordeaux castle is based on the Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany mixed with the Melbourne skyline. Although I'm partial to any french Chateau like the one De Chambord

I'll admit to being a bit worried about using Rose by James Horner because it basically the theme but it's also the theme that plays (I believe) when they first introduce Rose.

Mr. Fierro's First Name

It's funny I think I mentioned that I wanted Mr. Fierro's first name to be like Mr. Darcy in Pride and the Prejudice (one of the only books I really enjoy , I've read all the versions !) whose first name (Fitzwilliam) is only mentioned twice.

The reason I bring this up because I abandoned the idea and more than hinted Mr. Fierro's first name in chapter 2. But since few people caught it and it was so small I decided to take it out for fun !

Clara's Death

I should have made it a bit more evident went Clara died. In Chapter one she says ". . . 2007, a year that would always be mine". So she died and it is currently 2007.

Hope that helps !

Chapter 7

On to chapter 7, at first I didn't like Pandora but now like Shawna I swear it's reading my mind.

  1. Oh, this was so pretty as always !

I had no idea you have been using Pandora also ! I have had the same 'reading my mind' feeling with Pandora too, as a matter of fact I put 'Be My Escape' in and it pretty much spit out all the songs I ended up using. However lately, Pandora and I have been clashing.

    Sorry for the mini-blog.

P.S It must be nice to be one of *those* women who gets to bother others about not being married ! JK, I love you still.

  2. eeep ! I've been waiting all week for this, I love all the floral imagery, I hope you don't run out of flowers.

  3. Wait, when did you hint at Mr.Fierro's first name ? Did someone catch it in the comments of that chapter. But, his first name is Addie isn't it ?

  4. Why do they have to send specters to kill family members ? Where did Victor's Uncle go ?

I have so many questions about how this works it's killing me

    ReplyDelete
  5. I'm with Tabbi I have questions too ! You mentioned you like Pride&Prejiduce so maybe this work is inspired by that but, why does she call the elevator a lift ? It sounds British-y.

  6. Lol, when I first read the part where Clara walks into the room I thought she did hear the shower and I was like there about to get it on. But, I missed Emile

  7. What kind of a reader would I be if I didn't make comparisons between an authors work ? With that preface in my mind Victor seems very analogous to Adam, I have no idea why maybe it's the seemingly perfectness ?

  8. This piece was so lovely, I have been itching for a LL fix !

Hmmm . . . what does Mr.Fierro's watch symbolize I feel like it means something ? Maybe it will play a part in something later on ?

  9. I like this song as well but, I have to say Clair De Lune and Rose are my favorites !

  10. "My heart nearly gave out as Emile jumped out from behind the couch."

    Um . . . if she's dead hasn't her heart already given out ?

On a serious note, I feel bad for Clara and her hard time coping with her death. She seems so trapped.

  11. I am totally theorizing it up but this line sticks out to me :

He offered it to me to rid the dirt on my hands.

It seems like Clara is always planting or tending to flower bulbs which as we know once the winter frosts them over and die the bulbs still come back and bloom again. It seems like she is dealing with life and death in an emotional and physical state.

  12. Everything about this has been very beautiful Ms.Leigh. I really enjoy this.

I have never heard the sequel to the Persephone/Hades story. That is very interesting. Is their a title

  13. Linda Leigh, there is something that makes this very remarkable and I think I know what it is. You have written Clara so perfectly. Even if you never hear about her before life just by her actions and the way she talks you can tell she is a little bit WASP-y and very educated.

P.S Love the name of her fiance. Your husband and I got a kick out of it.

  14. I never understood people talking about piano music being so beautiful it made them cry until I started reading/hearing this.

I think the real question here is what harm are the specters causing to Nightfall that there exist loyalist who despise it so much ?

  15. I think Clara will be more at peace when she learns she does have friends in Nightfall like Ms. Ginger and Emile or even Victor. I would think someone like her would be happier now that she lives in a place with more freedom

    ReplyDelete
  16. It is mentioned that Clara wears a purity ring so, I've been doubting whether or not she loved Peter or if she married him to just have sex ? I just wonder if her virginity is ever going to play a role in this.

  17. This was so awesome ! I need more LL crack ! I can't think of anything to add that others haven't.

“Confused ? you should be lucky. Do you know what girls in this city would give to work a Bordeaux party.”

Totally reminds me of The Devil Wears Prada

  18. Tell me there will be a polyvore for the peach dress, it seems so beautiful. I want to wear it.

  19. I love love love love that little conversation they had about names it seemed so real and a bit of a nod to the fact that Linda always has the best names !

    ReplyDelete
  20. I wonder does anyone really think one book written will cause so much trouble or social change in Nightfall. Ecspecially seeing as the people in Nightfall know that there is no Underworld or gods.

    ReplyDelete
  21. ^^^
Well, look at Uncle Tom's Cabin or The Bible they are books that changed everything.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I think Clara's middle name and the fact that she dropped her shoe mean she will marry a prince in the future. The question is will that prince be Victor or Mr.F ?

    ReplyDelete
  23. I don't see why someone can't be a specter occasionally and not get addicted. I wonder if there is more to Clara's grandmother than we know ?

    ReplyDelete
  24. I want more, this was waaaay to short !

This is probably really obvious but, what does Victor say very funny, Addie about ?

    ReplyDelete
  25. How old is Clara supposed to be again and who is that on the inspirations page under Clara ? She is my favorite character, the way she acts feels very realistic.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I am obsessed with Pride and Prejudice too, I was a bit irked to find Twilight was inspired a lot by it. My favorite sequel is Mr.Darcy's Diary. Did you like the movie with Kiera Knightley ?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Interesting and inspiring as usual, LiLe.

Is not general incivility the very essence of love ?

  28. For a second I thought Peter was dating one of Clara's sisters, I think it is good they try and make him feel like family.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Honestly, with a name like Fitzwilliam it should only be mentioned twice.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Those castles are beautiful but something tells me LiLe just wants a wedding to go to. I had no idea that was what Melbourne looks like . . . I guess I judged Canadians to soon.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Someone pointed out that Mr.Fierro's watch is running slow and that watch was the one Clara thought was her grandmothers and . . . . I have no idea where to go from there but, I feel like I''m on to something

    ReplyDelete
  32. I am still wondering when it gets scary or more macarbe ? It was kind of close when Mr.F slashed her with the pen.

    ReplyDelete

  33. Okay, so one of my edits didn't cross over and Mr. Fierro's name was left in this chapter. In Chapter 2 Ms. Ginger says it. I'm keeping to much from you as it is !

@ Shawna - Wait, you've been using Pandora ? Does this mean we can expect something soon ????Sorry, had to try the "get married" thing once !

@ June - I don't think Botany will let me

@ July - Yes and No.

@ Tabbi - Just like Victor said, "It's tradition". His Uncle became a Specter, which leads to something interesting . . .

@ Donna - Honeslty, I think Lift sounds better.

    @ Emile - ummm . . .

@ Heidi - This is interesting becuase I wanted Adam to be seemingly unperfect,*mini-blog* because he is carrying on an affair with a woman who is married and it's not like he is anti-marriage. In retrospect if his brother had been having an affair he would be crushed.

    @ Violeta - I don't know . . .

@ Amber - I think this one was more contemproray

    @ Cara - Yeah, that's true but it's a figure of speech.

@ Lily - Uh. . .hmm, yeah that sounds right.

@ Wilson - Is it the Eleusinian Mysteries ? I was a greek studies minor for the first year of my bachelors so . . .

@ Mr. Hallston - Peter Morrati ? Well, he was named after Peter Facinelli (hence green eyes), sorry.

    @ Jason - Hm

    @ Boston_Girl - You would think. . .

    @ SamL - I don't know or do I ?

@ Shelly - Love me so Meryl Streep

    @ Peace_goddess - Sort of,

@ Ariel - Oh, thank you

    @ NyBarista - hmm, intersting

    @ Sugarcookie - Good point

@ Topaz - Well, she did go back for her shoe

@ Sunset - Well, like most things it's just tradition.

@ Gina - We shall see, soon.

@ tutor_girl - Love the username. And yes, I saw it when it first came out. I like all the movies but the Zombie book is my favorite.

    @ Joseph - I tend to disagree

@ Sihoban - People bond in tragedy

    @ Rei - True.

@ Erik, hmm, you're not Canadian. You are so . . . nice.

    @ Daisy - . . .

@ Dylan - maybe I over-estimated with those words, but it may get slightly twisted.
