S&A Connections
So in an S&A post or comment I mentioned their being some slight connections to the then unnamed Litany Lane. The first one was in chapter 13 part 4 when Sofia is in Washington Square Park
"I had learned in one of my many classes at Hudson-River that Washington Square Park had original been a cemetery years ago and every step I took I wondered if I was bothering someone’s eternal rest."
Then another unintentional connection is that in Chapter 6 Sofia & Adam (oh, S&A hmm . . .) go see The Other Boleyn Girl which is about Anne and Mary Boleyn.
Natalie Dormier, plays Anne Boleyn in The Tudors which I have been using for inspiration to flesh out language details, in case you could not already tell.
I would have used her for a "Clara" inspiration but she is almost too pretty, at least when she isn't getting the life photoshopped out of her.

When I began to finish S&A I had every intention of saying "this is the last chapter" and then posting it but after what I call the Shawna Harrison Bait and Hook ending (SHBH, played nicely with IVB I might add) I had to try it myself so I'm just going to say it's official the preferred method of Linda Leigh, I'm just saying.
Chapter 8
A little musical note on Chapter 8, Death Is The Road To Awe and The Moment I Said It can (in my mind) be interchanged. As a matter of fact it was written that way before I started using Imogen Heap . I think the both have the (here we go) a slow start, semi-climax, and then fizzle out.

ReplyDeleteI was debating the bait and hook thing with IVB as well but, it's fun and I kind of perfer it when I'm reading.
Kind of like when you watch a movie in theatres and don't know when it will end.
I think you did use that BBC link when you were posting about Tomfia's 2-line conversation in Lithuanian but I love seeing your sources. Anymore happenings at Cobalt ?

I was honestly forgot you wrote S&A because I think this blows it out the water. It is so powerful to me. I mean I love S&A too though. I like to see the connections.

I was wondering when Kayla would come back ! That ice skating scene literally warmed my heart. The song was perfect and it was just to wonderful. How could Clara not want to join in ?

ReplyDeleteI found this chapter more sweet than sad. I love Mr. Fierro's tough love towards everyone. However I really want to know what he went back in the house for.
ReplyDeleteIt seems so intentional that there is no explanation point when Mr. F says the house is on fire but there is when Clara says what. Does Mr. F ever show emotion
ReplyDeleteI want to know what the fire will do to the Nightfallers (Nightfallish? Nightfallens ?). I can't imagine what Clara will do without a home but, it seems like Litany Lane is a close knit community

So, do they not age once they are dead. I just wanted to know if Kayla will be young forever ? If so that would be kind of sad but,kind of awesome.
I find the instances where Clara is watching Mr. Fierro by himself like when he is skating/reading the paper/coughing near the house to be moving. I can just see them in my head.

ReplyDeleteThe last part went wonderfully with the music, I think it's good for her to play through the music. And because they don't need to sleep or eat does she really need to rest her hands while playing the piano ?
